How to Make the Most of Your Space in Your Storage Unit

How to Make the Most of Your Space in Your Storage Unit

We could all use a little more space for the things we love. After all, a clutter-free space means a clutter-free mind. No matter how small or large your storage unit is, there are always ways to make the most out of your space and optimize your unit.

Make a priority list and declutter

One of the first things you should do is to make a priority list of things that you absolutely need to store away in your storage space. If you already have a storage space with things in it, consider getting rid of what you know you will not use by either donating or selling those items. Most of the time, we have some type of sentimental feeling tied to the item while not actively making room for the things that we actually have use for. If you know you absolutely cannot get rid of certain items, consider upgrading to a larger storage unit to optimize your space.

Use the right size packing supplies

How many times have you gotten a package in the mail with an overwhelming amount of unnecessary packaging supplies? You will be surprised to see how using correct height and width measurements for storing items can make all the difference. Bins and boxes come in a variety of sizes so that you can store away items with just the right amount of dimensions needed. Be sure to never overfill your boxes; if anything, storing things away in multiple boxes is better than risking letting the overload cause something to break.

Hang items where needed

There are many ways to optimize space in your unit, such as hanging items where needed. Using shelves, hooks and the stacking method are great ways to do this. Fishing rods, life jackets, umbrellas and many other items can easily be hung rather than placed inside boxes.

Disassemble furniture pieces

Furniture pieces are big and bulky, but can easily be disassembled if you properly follow the manufacturer’s manual. Some chairs are easily stackable, while others are not. Regardless, always store furniture first and push it up against the wall of the unit.

Assemble by accessibility

Every square foot in your storage unit counts. Why not make the most out of your storage space by organizing for accessibility? Most likely, furniture will be the last thing you grab, so storing it in the back and against the wall is best. Things that you will often reach for, however, should go in the front. This will not only make it easier, but it will save you time as well.
