Winter Storage Tips

Storing your summer items during the winter will require certain care in order to keep it protected. Cold weather can take a toll and cause damage to certain belongings. In addition, storing electronics during the winter means it’s not being used and can end up with severe issues if they aren’t cared for properly. If you are getting ready to put some things in storage during the cold winter months, be sure to follow these winter storage tips to keep your belongings ready to use once those warmer months roll around!

Use Cotton Covers

Cotton covers will help add protection to your items when storing them for winter. It also helps to keep bugs and dust away, especially if you plan on storing things for an extended amount of time. If you are storing belongings that are more sensitive, try wrapping them in wool or cotton blankets to keep them insulated and safe. It’s best to avoid using plastic covers since they are prone to capturing moisture, which in turn causes damage.

Make Sure Everything is Clean

One great tip to always use no matter the time of year when storing is to clean your belongings before putting them in storage. When items are left dirty and dusty, it can attract unwanted pests. Plus, it will make your life a lot easier when you pull it back out of storage and it’s clean and ready to go!

No Electronics on the Ground

Leaving electronic devices on the ground can cause damage to batteries and how they work. Even in a climate-controlled storage unit, the ground loses heat easily which makes it much colder than the rest of the unit. Try to avoid leaving electronics on the ground if possible.

Make Room for Winter Wardrobe

If you need more room in your closet for winter jackets and clothes, consider storing your summer and spring clothes. This will help you to get that much-needed space and it will also give you the opportunity to get rid of any summer clothes you may not need any more. You can also store other items that won’t be used during the winter months such as surfboards, paddle boards, beach toys, beach chairs, etc.

Hide Holiday Gifts

With the winter time, comes many holidays! To keep wandering eyes at bay, use your storage unit to put away gifts and keep them a complete surprise!
