How to Choose The Right Mini Storage for You

How to Choose The Right Mini Storage for You

Have you seen this new tiny homes trend? If you haven’t, it is a new way of living with extremely minimal personal items. Though this may not be the reality for most of us, sometimes sizing down requires us to get rid of things that no longer bring us happiness and focus on things we actually need. When living in smaller spaces, we may come to the conclusion that less is more and that spare items need to be put away. Luckily, there are small storage units available for those who do not own a great deal of material. If you are having trouble choosing a unit, we set up a simple guide to help.

Eliminate Unnecessary Belongings
Before you decide on a mini storage unit, make sure you look at your home’s belongings and eliminate unnecessary items. Consider donating items that are worn out, damaged or that you know you know you will not be put to good use. After all, you are paying to store important material, so it’s wise to make good use of the space.

Know your measurements
All of our smaller storage units hold up to two bedrooms of miscellaneous items and up to 50 square feet. This requires you to know the maximum height, width and length of the pieces that will go into the unit so that you know that all your materials will fit. Simply take a tape measure and take note of these three measuring components for the tallest, widest and lengthiest items. The units will vary in size beginning from as low as four feet tall to up to five and a half feet. For specific mini storage measurements, make sure to look at our site at the self-storage size guide for better reference.

Consider if you need Climate Control
Depending on what you’re storing, you might consider using one of our climate controlled units. Without climate control, the temperature and humidity can raise and lower with the weather. Some items can withstand the elements, but others can’t. Electronics, clothing, books, can develop rust or mildew in a high humidity environment, especially here in South Alabama where the heat and humidity in the air can become extreme. Having climate control in your unit is more expensive, but it affords you the knowledge that your items will remain at a constant temperature and humidity that won’t allow them to become damaged.

We have units from small to large, that are climate controlled. You may only need us for a few months, or you may find that our units fit your long-term plans.
