Storage for Military Families

Storage for Military Families

We are proud to honor our men and women in uniform by making the storage process as seamless as possible. As a member of the military, we understand that there are time-consuming stresses at work and home, so we are committed to making the storing and moving transition quick and easy, which allows more time at home. Below are a few quick tips on storage for service member families.

Storage for a Single Family Member

For men and women in the military and living alone, renting a storage unit is the most affordable and easiest way to keep personal belongings safe during deployment. Continuing to rent an apartment or house while in deployment could be hazardous if a roommate is not there to monitor for emergencies like break-ins or storm damage. Storage facilities offer locked and supervised units to hold possessions until returning from deployment.

Sort Through Ahead of Time

Take inventory of all possessions in advance. Combing through and identifying items that can be donated or thrown out will save time, effort and space on moving day. A good tip to use is to find items that have not been used in the past eight to ten months and decide if they are still useful. If the item is seasonal and will be used again, keep it to be added to the storage unit. Compile possessions that are no longer useful into a box and donate them so they can be loved by a new home or someone in need.

Climate-Controlled

Climate-controlled units are a great extra step to protect personal items even further. Antiques, electronics and musical instruments are just a few examples of items that can warp and be damaged in humidity or extremely high or low temperatures. A climate-controlled unit has air conditioning to keep belongings in a safe and dry environment.

Vehicle Storage

During deployment, it may be essential to store a car, boat or motorcycle. Never fear! Your vehicle will be in good hands. Parking spaces covered and uncovered are available to rent, as well as climate-controlled vehicle storage for long-term care.

Organization Tools

When organizing and sorting everything that will be going into your storage unit, it’s imperative to plan ahead and utilize storage tools! Organization is key. Here are just a few of the many tools available to make your storage experience easier:

  • Plastic Bins
    • Protect your valuables, like dishes and glassware, by using plastic bins. Cardboard boxes work well for temporary storage, but plastic is more durable for long-term storage.
  • Label Maker
    • Label plastic bins with the contents to make unpacking easier! Having the bins labeled will allow you to find needed items faster.
  • Dolly
    • Keep a dolly at the front of your unit. If you need to make an unexpected stop at the unit, the dolly will be ready to go. This makes it much easier to move items around.
  • Fireproof Safe
    • Keep important documents in a fireproof safe locked inside the unit. This is an extra measure of protection to help you have peace of mind.
